My name is Georgios Christos Kostaras, but everyone calls me George. I am 22 years old and I study in the Department of Political Sciences in Aristotle University, hoping to get my degree by the beginning of 2018. I was introduced to this mesmerizing journey of simulations, during my second year in university and since then I have participated in more than 16 conferences in Greece and abroad. My passion for diplomacy and international relations incented me to take such a decision and actively participate in such conferences, leading me to step out of my comfort zone as an individual. This will be my third year in SimUnesco having the privilege to serve as one of its Deputy Secretary Generals, as I served the previous years as a member of the Board. Since, last year’s SimUnesco was a huge attainment, this year our goal as a team is to ameliorate and stabilize that success. On a personal level, my expectations for this year are to designate the importance of UNESCO as an organization that contributes relentlessly, discussing enflaming topics in order to provide answers to topical challenges of our world, transmit this family-like atmosphere, which exists nowhere else, and ensure that this year’s crisis will exceed the expectations of every participant, who vows to challenge himself and entangle in real-time emergency situations.
Hello everyone! My name is Orestis Lagouvardos-Kotronis, I am almost 23 years old and I was born and raised in Athens.
I have recently concluded my studies in the field of Economics at Athens University of Economics and Business and I am currently sitting for a minor in the field of Finance at American College of Greece. Since November I’m interring as a financial analyst.
From early on I discovered my profound interest on foreign languages as well as arbitration with Model United Nations being a significant contributor in this process. I discovered the world of MUN’s at the age of 16 and since then I have participated in simulations, simulating national, regional and international organizations both in Greece and abroad. I also love reading, writing, travelling and exploring new places and landscapes.
From my capacity as Deputy Director General of SimUNESCO 2018 I would like to welcome you to a voyage into the world of diplomacy and arbitration. SimUnesCO is something more than a regular conference. Organized by students for students, characterized by academic excellence and professionalism and based on the values of understanding, respect and mutual contribution this conference is a pure illustration that unity makes strength.
The clock is ticking and the game is on! Are you in?
My name is Panagiotis Moumtsakis and I was born in the picturesque city of Kavala, currently living in Thessaloniki. As an undergraduate student at University of Macedonia, in the department of International and European Studies, specializing in politics and diplomacy I plan to pursue a MA in Public Opinion and Political Behavior in the future, which alongside with Comparative Politics and Political Philosophy consist my academic fields of interest. Thus my thesis is about youth political participation.
My first UN experience in model UN was as a second year university student, participating in ThessISMUN 2015. Since then, I have been consistently involved with model UN and participated in numerous simulations in national, regional and international level.
Outside the world of MUN, I completed my internship at the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence of the University of Macedonia, served as a member of the executive board of the Greek Association of Political and Economic Science (GRAPESS) for the period 2015-2017 and completed my short traineeship as a Political and Social Analyst in the activities of the Greek base of NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Greece. I am also the co-founder of “Διάλογος”, a municipal council simulation taking place in Kavala. In the near future, I intend to get an internship at the Embassy of Greece in London.
For SimUnesCO 2018, I wish to combine the high academic level of the conference with the lovely settings of the island and the wonderful nature of the participants in order to create an irresistible mixture that everyone should try! Last but not least, I am more than excited to welcome you to Corfu and determined to make this conference an amazing experience for you all!
My name is Paschalis Paschalidis. I am 22 years old and I have completed my studies at the faculty of Law of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. I completed my intership at the administrative court of Thessaloniki and I am currently a trainee lawyer. I started simulations, when I was 15 years old, as a high school student and since then, I have participated in more than twenty conferences, in Greece and abroad. I love reading, drinking coffee and hanging out with friends. This is my fourth year in the magic world of SimUnesCO, which I consider as a second home. My ambition for this year’s conference is to combine the unique atmosphere of the conference, along with a high academic level, based on meritocracy, hard work, effective academic research and cooperation between young people. For this reason, I call all of you to take a stand and support SimUnesCO 2018, with your presence, your willingness, your creativity and passion. Let’s make this year’s conference a place to raise our voices and find realistic and specific solutions about the great difficulties of today and tomorrow.
Hello everyone! My name is Anna Pekridou and I am hopefully entering the last semester of my studies in the Faculty of Law in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. My student life could briefly be described with the words; law, translation courses, debating, conferences, and generally scary exposure to new experiences which shaped my current character. At the following year, I will have the honor to serve as the President of the General Conference of SimUnesCO 2018 or better as a member of the team of the Secretariat of SimUnesCO 2018. This conference truly let me be myself without any anxiety or fear, mainly because of its people, that stood either in the front or backstage, who made me feel welcome at every moment and on every occasion. In other words, this is SimUnesCO, a conference that sets as a prerequisite to work along with the best part of ourselves. This is for sure not an easy task as it demands patience and willingness to become members of a team and not simply managers of ourselves. This is something difficult for Unesco itself, since it is currently facing a moral and financial crisis, partly due to the fact that the modern society mostly cares for the technological progress of the world rather than the spiritual development of humanity. Although hard, we must try to free ourselves from today’s stereotypes and become generous, acting equal with the others. And if this is something too good to become a reality, then, at least, I wish we will manage to accomplish it by simulating this way of leaving in SimUnesCO 2018. And with these words, we wholeheartedly welcome you to the family of SimUnesCO!
